Smoking and Drugs

Tamir: My name is Bolor. I live in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. I go to the Mongolian University. Drugs, smoking and prostitution are very serious in Mongolia. They are the most serious things happening in Mongolia. Drugs are being sold on every corner, cigarettes are being sold to under aged people and prostitution is happening in every hotel and many sauna places. I am being greatly affected by this. I am being peer pressured into using drugs, cigarettes and prostitutes. It is very hard in Mongolia to hang out with my friends because every time I see them, they are pressuring me into all of them. I am thinking becoming a law enforcer in Mongolia and stopping all this.

Zina: Do your parents know about your problem?

Tamir: I think so. I haven’t told them, but I think they’ve figured it out.

Choong Hwan: My name is Bilguun. I am 16 years old and I have a drug problem. When I was 14 years old I tried marijuana and I liked it. Since then, I am addicted to it and I think I have a very serious problem, but I also want to try new things, such as cocaine and meth and ice. I really enjoy drugs, but I think I need to stop. I need someone’s help because whenever I decide to stop, something/someone stops me.

Zina: Who gave you the drugs?

Choong Hwan: Batka, my best friend. I have blamed him since I tried the drugs, but he doesn’t really care about it. All he wants is money.

Eun Ju: My name is Namuun. I am 16 years old. I sell my body for money so I can buy drugs and cigarettes. I’ve done this for almost 2 years. I am not proud of it but there is no other way I can buy the things that I need to survive. My parents left me when I was 10 and I’ve lived with my aunt for 2,5 years and afterwards I started doing prostitution.

Zina: Have you heard from your parents since? Have they offered any help?

Eun Ju: I heard from my mother about a year ago. She asked for money from me. I couldn’t give her any because I needed money myself.

Zina: As we can see, there are many serious problems in this world that we are not aware of. We hope that someone will help this country to become a better place for all of us.
